Introduced alongside the original 911 as Porsche’s entry-level sports car, the 912 shared the same platform as the 911 and came equipped with a lightweight and easy-to-maintain 1,600cc flat-four engine. This 1968 example has been registered to its current owner since 2002 and has been driven sparingly during summers, stored away in the winter, and routinely serviced every spring. It underwent an engine rebuild in California prior to the owner’s purchase which included a big bore upgrade kit for increased engine displacement and power. Having undergone a recent tune-up, this classic 912 is now being offered with its original owner’s manual, toolkit, and California license plates.

This short-wheelbase 912 is finished in white with chrome trim on the body moldings, bumpers, window surrounds, horn grilles, and headlight rings. Other details include a fender-mounted antenna, dual polished mirrors, chrome door handles, pop-out rear quarter windows, and 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome Porsche-crested hubcaps. The car rides on Nexen SB-802 tires size 165/80. The car was previously refinished in the current white paint color and the paint code label in the driver’s door jamb shows the original color to have been Tangerine (6809). Remnants of the original paint can be seen, and some small chips are noted on the middle of the hood and the edge of the rear decklid. It does have rust on the passenger side floors as you can see in the pictures.

The cabin features black leatherette upholstery with matching carpets and basketweave pattern inserts on the seat centers and door panels. Accessories include brushed aluminum dashboard trim, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, a carpet dashboard cover, lap belts, analog VDO gauges, and an aftermarket Jensen radio. The clock is inoperable, and the radio is not connected to the speakers. Some holes are present in the headliner as well as a small tear at the top of the passenger’s seat, a missing knob on the driver’s window crank, a crack in the dashboard, and some wear on the driver’s side armrest.

Power comes from an air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four engine which was rebuilt and upgraded with a big bore cylinder kit prior to the current owner’s purchase in 2002. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Less than 10k miles have been driven since the engine was rebuilt and annual oil changes have been observed by the current owner. A tune-up was recently performed, and the generator light occasionally appears when the car is idling.

This sale will include the original black California license plates, owner’s manual, toolkit, spare tire, and a collection of service documents.
